The Alchemist Explains “The Cookbook EP” Cover Art Download

Producer extraordinaire The Alchemist explains the inspiration and concept for the cover art of "The Cookbook EP".  Go grab the complete cover art as free download over at his MySpace page.

Random thought:
Why do artists, established or otherwise, continue to push MySpace as a main starting point for their promotional efforts?  Buggy interface, poor media player, overloaded images & video, lagging load times, and heavily restricted customization seem to cause more harm than good.  Promo email with only MySpace addresses tend to get hit with a quick round of the "Delete" key… just a thought.

  1. All that is true, about MySpace. But it’s convenient – you’re already there checking emails from your friends, it’s nothing to hop over to Rapper XYZ’s page while you’re logged in. People are familiar with the format – over to the left is the music, in the right is the pics, etc.

    And lastly,, everyone else has one. If I’m starting a movie company, my shit is gonna come out on DVD, not Laserdisc or some other random format. The other formats might be better but no one is gonna ever see my shit if I’m not releasing it on DVD format

  2. I agree, Myspace is, in a somewhat way, not good/cheesy, but I also agree with Silva. That everyone has a Myspace and most are always logged in. But its always good to have a real website or blog. Having a verity of ways to get your music heard is a good thing. Get a Imeem, Myspace, Personal Website crazy good music and your basicly set.

    There’s no doubt that it’s convenient and many people are on myspace. However, my issue lies in the fact that as a site owner who receives a ton of email and requests from artists to listen to and post their music, MySpace has proven to be grossly unreliable and quite detrimental. MySpace and other sites like it would be most effectively used as supplementary tools to support primary artist owned websites with their own domains.

    I can’t count how many times I’ve received a promo email and clicked through to a myspace page only to find that the media player hasn’t worked or my browser drags from the 17 embedded videos and animated gifs… another possibly decent artist falls victim to the delete key or, even worse, auto-archive email filter.

    I see your point. Also another point is: Why have your fan base visit and encourage promotion of a restricted, corporate social network?
    10 year olds have Myspace accounts. Pages like Cratekings could work directly with other independent domains, but Myspace??
    @Silva
    Your point is also valid. I think this is the ultimate truth, however the question of “WHY?” is just as valid.
    @The Alchemist Vid:
    I was really impressed with Alch’s determination to get creative on releasing his digital art work with the album. I NEED the artwork. This stems from my love of the Vinyl & Record cover combination. I read the whole cover and everything on the album while listening. Did the same things with Cassette tapes.
    Nice Vid!

  5. After 10 years or so of using the internet, I still can’t get over the pussyness of talking shit on the web. So completely homo.
    Thing is, Myspace is owned by Fox, straight up and down. News Corp is owned ultimately by Rupert Murdoch. If we understand his influence on all media, and his fucked conservative philosophy, why should we let his reptilian ass to own our medium for artistic expression? I know I sound like a hippy, but damn….this shit is so fuckin corporate I want to tear out whatever hair I have left. I hate feeding that man’s pockets.

    I agree, the anonymous junk talking is wack… typical though.  Sad thing is that the commentor didn’t realize that it’s not all that anonymous… he made a mistake and revealed who he was!

  7. HERE’S THE DEAL WITH MYSPACE. THE TRUTH IS MOST PRO ARTISTS ON MYSPACE DON’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU ‘ ME ‘ OR ANYBODY EALSE. REAL TALK.THEY ARE UP THERE SOLELY TO PROMOTE THIER SHIT. IF WE WERE NOT UP THERE ON MYSPACE ‘ THEN THEY WOULDN’T BE EITHER. NOW THERE HAS BEEN A FEW PEOPLE TO CATCH A BREAK ON MYSPACE’ LIKE SOLDIER BOY ‘SEAN KINGSTON ECT. BUT THATS LIKE LESS THAN .01% OF THE MILLIONS OF MYSPACE PEOPLE.IM NOT BASHING MYSPACE. I HAVE A MYSPACE. I WOULD NOT USE IT FOR MY SOLE PURPOSE OF MARKETING THOUGH.I SUGGEST STARTING YOUR OWN WEB PAGE ‘ DOING SHOWS ‘ AND REACHING OUT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN .FACE TO FACE !! GO TO A DYNAMIC PRODUCER CONFERENCE ‘ I STANDARD PRODUCER ‘ WHATEVER ‘ JUST DONT USE MYSPACE AS YOUR SOLE SOURCE OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE WORLD.
