Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins Gives Back To LA Community

Loyal readers may have noticed that Crate Kings tends to stay away from such stories as stolen beat controversies, producer beefs, and celebrity misfortunes.

Without preaching too much, we do our best to report stories and videos that are neutral to positive or at least contain some form of constructive and intelligent criticism instead of those that are purely negative or controversial.

Needless to say, at times this can be extremely challenging considering the amount of material that’s discarded in the process.  However, every once in a while there’s the chance to report a simple feel good story about someone taking time out to do something that wasn’t necessarily required.

Grammy award winning producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Brandy) is highlighted for his work with South Central Los Angeles non-profit organization A Place Called Home.

Darkchild also tells his tale of fighting the odds as teenager by taking 2 1/2 hour bus rides from New Jersey into NYC to have his music heard, having his demo thrown in the trash, and his ultimate snowball success story.

  1. Dope video. It’s nice to know that he’s doing such a positive thing for the community. I hope this leads to some kids realizing their dreams and pursuing a career in music!
