  1. Might be wrong Semantik, but I’m pretty sure this particular model has already been out as a “limited edition” type of thing. I saw it at GC maybe a year ago. I wanted it bad then, but the tag was too high. This has got to be the illest MPC.
All the simplicity of the 2000xl, with the burner and usb too. If only the pads had the old school feel….

    • that looks like a custom mod, and i think benjamino probably saw something similar as well. what this story describes is an official production version of the mpc 2500, not a one-off custom modification from a 3rd party.

  2. I have this MPC…I own #413 or something of I think 500 made, it says right on the front (it’s at a friends house.) I got it at guitar center, it was made by Akai, and not a third party. Don’t know why they would release it again…

  3. here’s araab music getting down on one a while back – I think its great that akai is gonna go to production line with this – cause I always thought it was their best all around offer. Everyone likes the simplicity of the 2000xl, we just wanted the usb and easier data storage.

  4. Boooooooooo! Been there, done that. Akai really needs to on something to compete with NI Maschine. I hate to say it, but it looks like they’re almost done.

BTW regular 2500s are less than $1000 at GC. I suggest you cop one, upgrade it with a hard drive and cd rom and still come out cheaper.

  5. They better get in the software game soon. If there was an MPC plug in for Ableton. Yikes. It would be game over for some other companies.

  6. ableton does have an mpc plugin called drum rack its better than an mpc.i gave my 1k to a friend because my software is killin all the hardware i ever owned and its rite on my laptop. the usb drum pads is all i need from akai .sorry but its the truth the mpc is like an tr 606 @ this point they are classics but very much obsolete .

    • jroctrax: you make a good point. I’m a hardcore believer of hardware and the old school feel and shit but ive always been intrigued by software instruments but never got to it. i have a picture at my blogspot of all the shit that i have including the MPC 2500 limited edition #479 out of the 500 that were made. I posted a track a while back with a song so itd be sick if you tell me why you think that shit that you have in your laptop is better than the stuff i got cus its always been confusing to me but i feel i’m right.. holla!
