Eric Sermon Making A Beat w/ Yamaha Motif ES8

December 3, 2011

The Funk Lord Eric Sermon heads to DJ Desue’s studio in Berlin and makes a beat from scratch using a Yamaha Motif ES8.

What I do is I take a sample from somewhere or some type of sample sound and make it sound gritty. So **** think it could be a loop or could be something.

That was dope as hell. I always wondered how E Serm made his beats. They don’t call him the Funklord for nuthin!

Dart_Adams December 3, 2011 at 5:44 pm

I been waitin’ for a E. Sermon beatmaking video ever since I saw him on his motif in Scratch magazine about 5 or 6 years ago. Dope video. Thanks for the post.

Righteous Zane December 20, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Is there anything that is even close to Scratch magazine out there now days. I used to read that magazine from cover to cover. Then toward the end it became XXL Jr. and sucked. Up until they started putting rappers on the covers that was one of the best magazines and I still have not been able to find anything really close to it since.

Izodone December 22, 2011 at 11:51 am

They’re weak i paid for a subscription and only got one before they cancelled wrote a letter and all that with no reply! But i hope sometin like it comes out it was dope! Is XXL Jr a production mag? and is it still out?

Yeah, E. Sermon still gettin’ it in! That’s good! Not too many major producers (if any) fu*kin’ with the Motif like that! Dope video!

Ghost47 December 7, 2011 at 8:34 am

This is not the only Instrument he gets down on he’s nice on the sp1200 too ! Still respect to an architect tho !Dope video Sup Semantik? December 7, 2011 at 9:21 pm

For awhile I wondered what happened to Sermon. I think dude could still make an impact on the game today, just how Clark Kent did with his last collab with Ross.

Alkota December 8, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Dope video. Glad to see Eric Sermon still doing it!

oskamadison December 12, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Don’ t laugh at me , yall but I didn’t think you could make a whole beat on a Motif like that. I’ve never played with one of those before. i’ve been sayin’ for years that E Double is one of the most underappreciated and overlooked cats that ever did it. Dude’s catalog is on some straight “short yellow bus” shit.

Ghost 47 December 13, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Yeah sick & Ridiculous…..

oskamadison December 18, 2011 at 8:56 pm

Thank you…

Mark December 25, 2011 at 3:15 pm

the beat sounds 2003. but dope nontheless

Syren December 26, 2011 at 2:15 pm

His style tho. Can’t expect anything else from the man.

sk December 26, 2011 at 11:26 pm

made that shit look too easy….

too much funk for one man.

ULTIMATE HATER December 28, 2011 at 6:56 pm

wow the video’s have really slowed down on this site , usto see a new video in 2 days or less now its down to 2 months or less what up with that semantic ? is the recession keeping cats from making beats ? no disrespect i just need to be inspired right now !
