  1. I STARTED OFF WITH HARDWEAR.NOW IM USING SOFTWEAR. YOU REALLY DON’T NEED HARDWEAR SAMPLERS AS MUCH NOWADAYS (NOT SAYING GET RID OF YOUR MP’S EITHER) BUT FEEL ME.. YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO MUCH OF THE SAME AND MORE THAN MOST HARDWEAR SEQUENCERS WITH SOFTWEAR’ AND IT ALLOWS YOU TO SEE WHAT YOUR DOING. WITH HARDWEAR SOMETIMES YOUR IN THE DARK BUT THATS WHERE YOUR EARS COME IN.I LIKE BOTH HONESTLY.BUT READING A MANUAL FOR EVERY PIECE OF GEAR I BOUGHT LIKE KEYBOARDS ‘ ECT. PUT ME TO SLEEP.HAD ME SPENDING MORE TIME READING MANUALS THEN MAKING MUSIC.EVERYBODY KNOWS BY NOW THAT 9TH WONDER MADE A SMASH FOR JAY-Z WITH FRUITY LOOPS. EVEN BETTER TO SEE A HIT WAS MADE IN REASON FOE ME THOUGH.SOFTWEAR IS PROBALLY NOT AS WARM AS HARDWEAR.AS A MATTER OF FACT I KNOW ITS NOT ‘ BUT LIKE HE SAID ‘HE HAD TO KEEP MESSING WITH IT EXPECIALLY WITH REASON CAUSE I KNOW MYSELF THAT ITS NOT THAT GOOD TO MASTER WITH BUT YOU CAN PUT THE TRACK IN YOUR HOST SEQUENCER AND THROW SOME EFFECTS ON IT.MAYBE EVEN RUN IT THROUGH AN WARM PRE. AND YOU’LL HAVE A STRAIGHT BANGAAAAAA !

    • This is true but this use of “warm” keeps getting misused to much. Saying reason doesnt sound warm like hardware depends on what hardware you are talking about. The meaning of warm comes from tape saturation which would add electric static to the soundsource, This happened on older machines the newer mpc’s don’t add no warmth.Go back to the mpc 3000 and u get warm because it was a lower bitrate in the processor to give u that warm effect you referring to. And in reason you can use the scream effect to add tape saturation to get that effect. food for thought

  2. Love this track! When i first heard it i thought it was a sample. I also thought it was produced by Kanye West at first. Sounds like how he used to make beats. I was like “oh shit Kanye is back!!” lol. Then i was surprised when i heard Khalil did it.

  3. Yeah, i actually remember thinking that Kanye produced “I Made It” for Jay-Z as well. it sounded like classic Kanye but it wasnt. It was Khalil, 1 of the best joints Jay did since he came out of retirement. that joint couldve been on Blueprint 1.

  4. “I was playing him beats and he was falling asleep” found that funny.

yeah he uses reason 4 and recycle, if you go to reason website he has videos on there.

  5. Wow its not a sample? Well it sure sound a lot like Bob Seger System “2+2=” off the album “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” not saying it wasn’t played but this sounds like some Vanilla Ice under pressure. I just don’t hear any Meters in this one.

Either way its still an amazing track and beat. Please buy The Clipses albums so we dont lose a great group in hip hop to corporate obscurity.

  6. is that…IS THAT TONY TRAXX…I didn’t recognize you without the caps man. haha..Have not been around here lately. Whats good?

  7. This guy has a really interesting approach to making hip hop beats. He seems to be one of the only prominent guys out there who cares deeply about creating his own sounds. I remember one particular clip of him explaining how Reason allows him to fool people into thinking he is using samples.
Let’s face it, although the art of sampling is carried on by an honorable group of people, rap music in general is suffering from a lack of musicianship. Guys back in the old school days had no alternative; their lack of income forced them to develop techniques using minimal gear to create beats by recycling records they grew up on. Nowadays we have capabilities far beyond that, and Khalil is a fine example of what can be done. To all the beat makers: go find your local musicians and sample them!

  8. I agree but lets face it. Reason is the shit. For 3 or 4 hundred bucks you get sounds ‘ samplers ‘ drum machines ‘ effects ‘ sequencer’ mixer ‘ and a hundred other things ! What on the market now can touch that affordability and flexibility in today’s times ? Nothing. Reason needs to send me a free copy of that new record too.lol
Big shout out to a Semantic for keeping us up on whats good.
    for real.
    Traxx

  9. NO PLEASE NOT KONTAKT IT SUCKS! MY MAN LET ME GET A HOLD OF IT .I HAD TO BUY THE DVD ON HOW TO USE IT BECAUSE THE MANUAL WAS TRASH. ITS NOT A DRUM MACHINE ITS JUST A INSTRUMENT YOU GOTTA USE YOUR HOST SEQUENCER TO GET SOMETHING GOING. ALL I DID WAS RAPED AND ROBBED THE 15 GB OF SOUNDS IT CAME WITH ON THE 2 DVD’S AND GAVE IT BACK TO HIM. I EVEN UNISTALLED IT FROM MY COMPUTER.

  10. Naw just because you don’t know how to use it, doesn’t mean it sucks. Komplete is actually pretty good. If you know whats up.

It may have a learning curve. But its good.

Native Instruments get at me give me a free copy.

  11. The funny thing is, people attribute Reason to be the “reason” Khalil is able to make dope sample free music that sounds like a sample, but the fact is, it is his access to amazing musicians that allow him to make that music. Sure reason helps but not anymore than any other program.
