  1. I love the idea of using the iPad to control your favorite DAW, but do you think the community will be able to compete with a device like the Lemur?

Will Apple ever officially release an app for the iPad with digital music creation in mind?

  2. I really like this. It really shows the potential of the iPad as a midi-controller, and I think we’re getting a sneak peak into the future of “controllerism” here (for lack of a better term).

@ Ryan: If I remember correctly, the Lemur is $1000+, so at around $600 for the base model, i think that the iPad could definitely compete, but that all depends on the apps.

regarding digital music creation apps, ik multimedia has already released an iPad version of its Groovemaker app: http://www.groovemaker.com/ipad/features/

    • how is it gay? its being used as probably one of the best touch screen pad controllers available. very nice.

      • I find it gay BECAUSE it is a touchscreen pad..

How can it be fun creating music touching a piece of glass..?
+ I find it very annoying that everything has to be so goddamn digitalisized nowadays!! Beatmaking on the Iphone, Nintendo DS, Ipad..

F-ck that!! It’s not a shame to get some gear where you can actually push buttons instead of pointing at it with a mouse or touching a glassplate!!

  3. anyone else seeing the maschine ads on the right? is just random from google ads or do companies pay to put it there…?

    • yeah i think NI is actively targeting their market and paying the site host for that ad space… nothing wrong with that

  4. Are the virtual pads on the iPad velocity sensitive? If so this is great… Still doesnt beat a MPC tho… Nothing ever will simply because of the sequencer…No software sequencer can even compare… I have tried many times to make the switch to software but I just cant do it bc I dont like the sequencing… Im thinking about getting Maschine that might be the closest thing to an MPC you can get with software..

  5. I play acoustic upright bass, like every day, with a bow, finger plucking, whatever – I also jam out on my little baldwin acoustic piano like at least 3 times a week with other people, playing my material, their material, whatever, JUST PLAYING MUSIC…no power, no operating system, no bpms………anyways, I’m as much a regular musician as I am a beatmaker/crate digger, and all I would say to anybody that would just say something is “gay” because it’s “too digital” is that, first of all, a MPC or a ASR is “digital”, so that’s kinda moot – and the other thing I would say is that, who wouldn’t just want to try it out?

who knows, it might be fun or something –

  6. MORE BULLSHIT. PLUS A NERD WITH TOO MUCH TIME ON HIS HANDS .WHERE IS MUSIC GOING THESE DAYS ? IF ITS THAT EASY WHY ISN’T THE GEEK OUT THERE ALREADY ? IM SORRY THIS WAS UNISPIRING TO ME . THIS IS LIKE GETTING A RIDING MOWER TO CUT YOUR GRASS THAT HAS AIR CONDITIONING AND A CD PLAYER WITH A GPS AND HEATED SEATS ‘ MORE CONVIENIENT BUT SEEMS A LITTLE ODD. NEXT THEY WILL HAVE WIRES YOU HOOK UP TO YOUR HEAD WHILE YOUR SLEEP LIKE A STAR TRACK MOVIE AND WHEN YOU WAKE UP YOUR SONG WILL BE PRINTING ON A COMPUTER LIKE YOU WERE AT THE HOSPITAL FOR A SLEEPING DISORDER lol THE GAME IS CRAZY . KIDS ARE CRAZY AND THE MUSIC NOW IS GARBAGE ‘!! IM NOT EVEN A AVERAGE PRODUCER ‘ TWO FINGERS UP ‘ BUT THAT DUDE WASN’T EVEN PLAYING NO REAL NOTES HE WAS JUST TAPING ON A PIECE OF GLASS LIKE BUY THIS ITS GREAT lol GO CHECK OUT THIS SITE HERE IS SOME MORE JUNK YOU CAN BUY AND BE A PRODUCER ILMAO !! NOW THAT MACHINE OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED THATS A COOL OPTION. AT LEAST ITS NOT A PIECE OF GLASS. MY POINT IS …STOP LETTING MAINSTREAM DESTROY OUR ART !!!!

  7. Pretty cool. Though I don’t like the beat that much, it shows the potential. Apple is really got the creative community behind them products marketing it without them paying them.

  8. @ yese ‘ I could care less what you think of my music ‘ the debate is about what we see here. I don’t think myspace defines anyone ‘ I am am amateur ‘ Im in this forum just like you trying to get tips and tricks to get better. Difference between me and you is ‘ one doesn’t hafto look at it like you hafto be a dr dre or a cat like that to have an opinion on what one likes or dis likes. One can like lets say uh ‘ justice league beats ‘ without being in thier league at all ‘ feel me ? but a hater is a hater and people are gonna try and be-little whatever you do anyway. Thats just the way it is.I even said in my post I wasn’t no producer like that ‘ yet you had to go do your research anyway lol good ! at least i know im still on they mind.

  9. I don’t think some people see beyond the video – you could use it to control all sorts of functions, that’s the only point I was trying to make – like you could use it just for filters or whatever like a kaoss pad, or even flip it like one of those old midi harps –

anyways, it’s not like I’m buying one – I just don’t see the point on bashing something based on one little demo video – you should keep your mind open to new options – there was a time when samplers were new and I’m sure there were people hating on them back then –

  10. I’m with Tony Traxx….

    bump this, not a fan….especially not for Hip-Hop production…

there’s no groove to the music, no soul, no depth….it’s far too electronic…

nothing aganst technology, but some things should just be kept the way they are…production shouldn’t be as accessible as checking your email…there should be a bit of a struggle, a bit of a challenge…that’s how great music is forged….

  11. Looks like this guy has some pad drumming skills. Anything else with him actually getting down on some drumming?

  12. I’m trying to figure out how you synced your Template to operate with Logic as you’ve demonstrated on this YouTube clip (Very nice by way) I was also wondering if it synced with just ANY Ultrabeat patch you pull up to make the drum sounds?! Thanks for the response in advance!

  13. Hey, very cool video, but can you make a tutorial how to get this pads to work in this App, because I can not figure out how to do this…
