Stax: The Soul of Hip-Hop drops Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 to commemorate the seemingly endless number of classics churned out by Isaac Hayes, Booker T & The MGs, The Emotions, William Bell, David Porter, and more.

Consisting of tracks sampled by notable hip-hop artists, the compilation seeks to honor the musical tradition and amazing roster of Stax legends.

The Examiner put together a list of the "Top 10 Hip-Hop Songs that Sampled a Video Game." I personally never been a fan of video game samples (always felt they were a little cheap), but the skill behind joints like Oh No’s "The Ride" and Percee P’s "2 Brothers From The Gutter" can’t be forgotten.

To show support and respect for synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog, Propellerhead has compiled and released a free refill for all registered Reason 4 owners.

Industry pro’s (and Reason experts), Craig Anderton, Mark Vail and Gordon Reid donated their best Moog-style patches, built using Reason’s Thor synthesizer. The intent is to shed some light onto the world of music synthesis that Bob Moog pioneered.

With over 250 pages, the Sampling Dictionary features listings formated by Artist’s Name / Track Title/Sampled Artist / Sampled Track, while the Re: Sampling Dictionary provides the exact same info, but in reverse index.

Sure, we’re gonna hear all types of balks and arguments from who don’t think this is "keeping it real", but do you really care when you’re saving years of lost time, money, and sleep trying to figure solve the problem of that the elusive sample ID?

Sued For Samples: Kanye West, Common, Method Man And Redman

The latest significant sample lawsuit to hit the streets is brought to us courtesy of Kanye West, Common, Method, Redman, and a bunch of folks over at the Universal Music Group. Seems like Kanye West just can’t escape the sample clearance lawsuits lately. This time the daughter of Jazz saxophonist Joe Farrell has sued for lifting the drum break from Joe Farrell’s 1974 CTI recording of Upon This Rock. The samples were "allegedly" used on Kanye’s "Gone", Common "Chi-City", and Method Man/Redman’s "Run 4 Cover".

Apparently, at least $1 million being sought in punitive damages, but was it worth it?
