Record Rama: The Worlds Largest Record Collection (Video)

Record collector, store owner, and archivist Paul Mawhinney is credited as having the largest private record collection in the world.  With over 1 million albums and 1 1/2 million singles the Library of Congress estimates that only 17 percent of the music in his archive is available on CD.

Paul tells the story of building his collection as a traveling salesman, opening Record-Rama, and shows off such gems as an ultra-rare Rolling Stones pressing and the first flat record ever made, which was pressed in 1881.

The world is dead out there… they have their ears closed.  They don’t understand what’s going on at this moment and its gonna take them ten, fifteen, twenty years to wake up and realize what they missed.

  1. *Mr FLoyd Drools*
*Mr Floyd Goes to his fancy Ikea shelves, looks and feels bad about himself.*

    I would marry this man.

PS: I will happily give his collection a home.

  2. This should be turned into a national sound library and not even be relocated. Listening centers and the ability to archive works for use at home, just like photocopiers in a library.

In 15-20 years I hope I can be like this guy 🙂

  3. NOooooooooo shit all these DJ’s and producers with dough and nobodys made an offer sad…wish I had the money I’d happily give it to the old man in CASH……and then start digging my ass off

  4. yeah i would def through him the money if I had im surprised these big producers haven’t snatch this shit yeah probly to busy buying cars and things

  5. god damnnnn

  6. “Im not going to throw my life away because everyone out there is sleeping.”

Just the mentality of old school record (and music for that) heads is leagues above new era bullshit.

Respect to the older heads, like P said above, industry cats can buy Bugatti 16.4’s for 2.4 million, but history making record archives falter and smolder in the present.

  7. THIS SHIT MADE ME SAD AS HELL YALL. NOT ONLY IS HE SELLING IT FOR SCORES LESS THAN ITS WORTH (FUCKIN STEAL) BUT NOBODY WITH MONEY IS WILLING OT BUY IT?!??? WTF???????!!!!! I WORK IN THE DIAMOND DISTRICT IN NYC AND IF I SEE ANY OF THESE RAP FOOLS BUYING CHAINS AND DIAMONDS AND BUGATTIS AND SHIT (shout out to Deviate for that) IM SOUNDING OF ON THEY PUNK ASS!

ANYWAYS KIDS…. I’M OFF IN SEARCH OF 6 MILION DOLLARS

4 MILL (RECORD COLLECTION AND HOUSE)
1 MILL (STUDIO CONSTRUCTION AND WEED MONEY)
1 MILL (FOR THAT SWEET OLD MAN AND HIS WIFE TO SPEND ON CARS, LAPDANCES AND SEX TOYS)

  8. this guy…if he doesnt have 2 copies, he wont sell it to you, if not, he offers to make you a cd for like 50 bucks.. you ask to see an artist, and they disappear into the shelves, and come back with a whole library cart filled up then you sit there wondering how youre gonna come up with the money to buy’em all

  9. Damn this is moving stuff man… the government should invest in a museum/ music archive based on that collection. I would def drop-in!

  10. This guy is so correct and knows his music and knowledge of the creative process. People who called themselves producers and do not own vinyl need to sit the hell down. No disrespect intended but a real producer has records and more than 10 in his collection. Look around check the labs of the greats and see what they using and you’ll know what’s up. I don’t think cd’s will ever be worth the price to make em but you take records man you can become a millionaire if you get a Holt to the right album. Do your home work before you bash us old heads with age comes wisdom…..
