Questlove Challenges Biz Markie (Bob James Related)

October 14, 2009

Questlove compares Tumblin’ Dice to a frog, then talks about the creation of his airtight vinyl library containing over 60,000 records.  He also retells the long told tale of Biz Markie’s alleged copy of Bob James performing “Take Me To The Mardi Gras” live without the bells and lays down a challenge for Biz to produce a physical copy of the record.  Questlove then breaks down some of the crazy aspects of music publishing, masters, and sampling.

Notable Quote:
“There’s about maybe 15 cats that can bust my behind in record digging.  Shadow, Muro…”

Part 2 after the break!

i swear to christ in my wildest production dream beside a portable neako based on a mac and evey moog piece of gear did i comprehend that you could get the masters like that and its staxs. I dont even really like kwest all that much but i would punch taylor swift dead in the mouth for just the drums.

im pretty sure stax offered the stax masters to a bunch of people. Jake One told me he has about 200 of them that were given to him, he did a few joints off White Van Music with them including the single with Freeway.

biz lies about a lot of shit. ask de la and freddie foxx and marley and eric b. biz said mc shan wrote the lyrics to paid in full. biz said he did all of his beats and marley engineered all of it. now marley lies too. but biz definitely didnt do all of his own beats.

TWO QUICK POINTS … *1 I think its sad that the people who actually made the song has no say-so who gets thier masters. its bad enough they don’t have there masters. now their being sold all over the industry to the highest bidder ! thats the real issue here. #2 i think that just because the record labels couldn’t adapt to the internet frenzy with this downloading shit they shouldn’t take it out on the artists with that 360 deal scam. and its funny people are still living and breathing for a deal.ITS POSSIBLE TO BE A INDEPENDANT REALESTATE AGENT WITHOUT USING THIER OFFICE AND THIER FAX MACHINES AND PAYING HALF YOUR COMMISSION TO A REALESTATE AGENCY LIKE REMAX lol
quest love is smart but he’s being pimped too.ALL THESE RAPPERS NEED TO BUY LESS BLING AND PUT THIER MONEY TOGETHER AND BUY CLEAR CHANNEL OUT ! this will solve the whole problem.TAKE BACK THE MUSIC !!

NooB it also means the individual tracks that make up a song, for example the drums and the guitar and the bass and the vocals and the piano as separate .wav files

I agree with you Traxx.

It also seems that some members of the Juice Crew have a problem with telling the truth (ie; Roxanne Shante) ;-)
