I just noticed the other day i had a really awsome system for basslines.
I first take my bass sample. ( a one hit note) And i put one note on pad 1. I then take that same bass note, and put it an octave higher on pad 2. (Im using hte MPC by the way)
I then take the higher octave, and with my 16 levels function, i play the highest octave possible, with that high octave pad. ALmost sounds ear splitting, but not quite. I do this to make sure im in tune. So i play my beat, while im tapping this bass pad, and adjusting the tuning untill i have it just right. Finally, i play the bass line with the higher octave pad on 16 levels. It helps for my ears to be able to hear the melody a bit better. Once i got a good bassline, i switch it for the original, low octave bassline, and there you have it.
THat made no sense huh?

yeah, i have no idea what your talking about, i'm using audiomulch which based on the beats i'm able to produce is similar in capacity to a MPC. If you take things out of technical terms for a MPC i'll probably know what you're saying.
by the way is leaving the baseline out an option because i have a beat i love the fuck out of that i can't create a baseline for without maxing out the CPU usage because of the funky shit i'm doing with the sample...

basically what im saying, is make your bass melody really high pitch. So it wont even sound like a bass line anymore. Then, once the bass is tuned to your sample, make a melody with that bassline super highpitch. Once you have that melody down, switch the bassline for the lowpitch, normal one. I guess if your working with a midi program, just highlight all your midi notes, and drag them down on octave.

thanks, i'll give it a try and let you know the results.
Also for future reference audiomulch is sample based, like it doesn't even come with sounds, but the mechanics are different from an MPC.

yo grime, you're right. i do the same thing. it helps because you can really hear the tone to see if it's blending with the samples. if it just so happens to work at that high pitch, i'll mess with it, or put it the low notes and do a baseline like that instead. i do it backwards and forwards depending on how hard of a time i'm having with trying to get the bass on point with the samples...peace
