Default MPC 1000 pad linking, and should I buy one?

so you know how sometimes you want one drum sound to silence another that's already playing? For example, the closed hihat cancels the open hihat.

Can you do that on the MPC 1000? Check it out, I've borrowed this dude's MPC1k for a few days in a try-before-buy deal. I'm having trouble deciding whether or not to pick it up. It's "like" brand new, the pads work fine as far as I can tell, aaand it's pretty fun.

Your thoughts.
