i try to avoid it, sometimes i feel like why not. i wouldn't do it intentionally, it's a cappy feeling to hear something you "discovered" flipped by somebody else. but hey - as someone said, if you're doing your job it won't sound like anyone else.

it's ok. especially if u flip the sample and don't even know someone has done it already. everybody's different so your version will be definately different.

Truthfully I make it a point to sample something thats already been done. Now I may not ever use the beat but it's good practice and it's fun to see if you can flip it better. Or you may find a part that the other producer didn't touch.

Default Flip & Dig

i like it both ways...i like diggin' and findin' something that (i think..lol) nobody has used.....aaaand sampling the most recognizable sample on the planet and flippin' it crazy..(the challege of it!!) for example......

somebody mentioned jus' blaze jus loopin' the jay-z joint......(he did put alot into that song in pre & post production...i.e.layering all the V-drums ect)

but anywayz..... Jus' also sampled Rick James "super freak"!!!!

AND FLIPPED THE F*CK out of it for a talib joint (i think)

thats a perfect example of how to "flip" a sample

so i like to "super freak" a sample....challenge
and i like to get my "madlib" dig on.....challenge

my 2 cents

peace cuzins

I don't really like the idea for one everytime you hear that song you did it's always gonna be in comparison and in everyone elses ears also, unless you represent it in a whole new way where you can't even tell it's the same

very true, about the comparison to the original.
whenever i do it, i never do it for serious, always just for the curiosity.
afraid that if i actually released it the first thing i'd hear would be someone saying, oh, that's (name of the famous song that sampled it). and i'd rather not have to deal with that.
and about flipping it beyond recognition, unless i'm deliberately trying to prove a point and outproduce the artist who first made it, i'd rather just find my own sample.

as long as it wasnt the same way... on sum otha shit though, diggin for the illest sample is like on sum first one to bring this to the table type shit, so the originality aspect is not there in terms of digging to be the first, but on sum production type shit, sure its original to take a sample that's been used be 4 and flip.. cuz in the end, the sample aint urs, thats why its a sample, so technically THAT aint original..... imma fan of tryin to flip anything, and most of the time these high end producers sample the most obvious parts of the dopest songs, then we dig for shit- and on our quest we be like this muthafucka aint do shit but loop and add a drum loop....... peace
