you are always be sampling something that someone else has done before but the question is how can you flip that sample. I've done it just to see if I can make a hotter beat.

i flipped this gladys knight song a while ago, and then i listened to the new atmosphere album and they flipped it the same way, it was a loop, but now i kinda dont even want to play my own beat cuz someone made the same shit.

I feel as if you take a sample that has been used..u should flip it in a different way...theres no law that says dont sample what others sampled...take for instance the "Show Me What You Got" beat...three people used the Shaft in Africa sample but they were all very different and all hot might I add...its just the way u flip it...but if u redo the same shit ur a lame that shouldnt be producing lol

i think its all in finding a different way to flip some thing..you shouldnt sample some thats obvious..you should try to sample something in the song thats different from the sample that everyones heard on a previous beat..

Default samples

if you flipped a sample and someone can tell someone else flipped it already you didn't do your job as a producer.

can't get lazy.

if its a well known sample then put it like this, if u cant flip it better than anyone else who flipped it or make it sound nothing like the original then u have no business touching it

Just the three people, damn bro, I reckon it's more than that! I can right off the top of my head remember at least three that used that back in 1989 including the Cookie Crew, The Dissmasters, The Urban Allstars, and judging by how often that tune was played in the clubs back then I'm sure there were dozens more who sampled it.

The thing that surprised me with the Jay-Z track was how lazy Just Blaze was with it, I mean, that's a track that everyone with even the mildest interest in old funk knows like the back of their hand and he just, well looped it! Not that I have anything against loops, but you'd think on a tune that well known he'd have done a little more!

Lightbulb Hmm.

Well Nas once said "No Idea's Original There's Nothing New Under the Sun It's Not What You Do It's How It's Done" It Depends tho. If You flip it(Sample) just like the Last Person Did, Then Shame On you.(For Example) Common - Misunderstood(Dope) Lil Wanye's - Misunderstood(You Decide) But if you just come up with some totally different then I see no problem.

as long as you flip it differently, and make it ur own then ur all good. I look at samples as merely sounds and noone owns that. Suckas always talk about somebody else used it...so what!!! Its no diff to me as millions of cats playin piano or whatever, but theres diff styles so whatever, anybody sayin otherwise is a sucka, j/k ;-)

If the beat is bangin, it's bangin! But i do think you should flip it good and it has to b original.

On the other hand, you can't flip like a premo used sample cause it just won't be better haha... just kiddin.
