Bassline Question

I know wot u mean grime. But I didnt mean u have to use those specific ranges, thats just a guide. It could be more or less than that. I think the main thing is to try and keep the bass and kick in different ranges. That said I don't always do it lol.

To me mixing is the hardest part of making a beat. I compare my mixes to real songs all the time and its usually not quite the same. But then again most producers have engineers to help them.

Any of you try side chaining?... It's where a compressor is applied to the bass that gets triggered by the kick drum... so basically each time the kick goes off it clears a bit of room from the bass so the kick can shine through. I'm not one to elaborate tho, thats for the good people at google to handle.

I don't know how to use side chain in logic but it would be handy to know how. I think the most impotant thing is to start off with a bass that sounds dope without even touching it.
I usually EQ my bass and my kick to different frequencies, I usually bring the subs up on the bass (so the lower frequencies), and bring the subs down on the kick but make it hit quite hard just above the frequencies of the sub, so the kick stays bassy but without overlapping and creating that muddy effect.
I've also noticed that when u sample a ur bass from one that already exists it sounds better, simply because a sound engineer has probably already mastered it perfectly. Just chop up one note and play the others...

the best I know how to do is just try to make sure everything is in the right key and pitch...thats all...u can play around wit baselines but make sure its in the right pitch

those frequency numbers have me confused. lol, I just filtered a basstone till it sounded about right and programed it.

think of your bass as the low guy and the kick as the high guy (even tho it's still on the low end) you can find some nice kick punch frequencies in the 4K range and you can lower most of the high end on the bass... depending on the bass.

plus compress the bass on a 20:1 ratio possible and turn up the gain you will get some nice results.

Some bass and kicks may not just blend at all... thas when you might wanna change the sounds all together.

basslines are what I have the biggest problem with ... all I really know to do on my mpc1000 is to use the low filters. What else should I be doing?
