Seriously, there is no 1 way to make music. If grime wants to make beats using samples he damn well can and should.... chopped or looped makes no difference. If you other cats want to make music through composing you can and should... My point being people who like grime's style will listen to his music and it goes the other way too. Music is all about emotions, style, feelings etc... People are gonna listen to and follow what they like. Seeing as this forum is called "CrateKings" if you hadn't noticed, I'd imagine most of the producers who get respect around here use samples... Does that not make sense?

I hate it when people come off like their way is the only way and is the law or something. Even if you didn't mean too that's exactly how it looks from where I'm standing.
i think u got us wrong here...to b honest putting a layer of drums over a loop is no art...and guess what?? music is about art..if u say just layring drum over a loop is an art then even my 7 years old brother can do that...and should i say? "Damn he really has talent" all i was trying to say get a sample then add in your "OWN STYLE" on top of it with using different instruments...and im pretty sure u can find those old jazz, funk soul or w.e. type of instrument u lookin for..u can find it..u just gotta study and see what type of instruments they used

Yo, to be perfectly honest, you shouldn't be telling people anything. Also, where the hell in my post did I mention layering drums over a loop? Huh? This whole music is art thing you're talking about is also only your opinion. Music can be whatever the hell the creator wants it to be.

You should also stop repeating yourself... I already know what your opinion on making music is from your previous posts. I also don't have a problem with it but I do have a problem with how you're coming off about it. If someone so chooses to layer drums over a loop because it fits their album and does a good job of it and people like it... you really can't say shit just because it conflicts with your "opinion". Say what you gotta say (you already have) and move on. If people don't agree with you, don't come back at them, just keep it moving. This shit ends here.

Back to the nominations.

Peace.

i disagree. One of my favorite songs doesnt even have drums over the loop. ( zSHARE - 05 05 - times up.mp3 )True alot of people can put drums over a loop, but few people can do it well.

We really should stop derailing this thread but I just wanted to say one last thing which is about the unwritten rules of sampling. When defending sampling alot of producers will use some arguments about how there are no rules to music or sampling but their clearly are. Would you look down on a sampler that resampled a rap song. What if I sampled a loop Dj Premier made pitch shifted a semitone and put new drums on the top. Does that constitute an art? So then why is it an art to find an old soul/jazz/funk song and just find a straight 4 bars out of it. It's not like the song is good because you have any knowledge about music composition or an ability to play well but more because the original song was good. If you could reflip that same song into something that's almost completely different I think that's art. Another way you could argue this defending samples is asking are the beatles less of a band because they had people come in and record on their songs? Is my guitar gently weeps less of a beatles song becasue Eric Clapton plays the lead guitar? So I guess it's hard to clearly define so I'll just say this not everything is art.

So that was a long rant kudos if you read it all. How many more nominees you gotta find for the best beatmaker thing now grime?
