You mean why dont we play instruments over the top of it? or why dont we chop our samples?
If your talking about instruments, i personally dont because it usually sounds mad corny. But i layer tons of different samples.
And almost everyone here chops up there samples

Not to knock sampling but people need to give originality some more love too. It's very possible to do original beats with out making it sound corny although 90% of original beats are. Sure synths usually sound corny but sometimes they don't, neptunes and Kanye occasionally pull it off.
And no one can tell me these don't sound as amazing as any sampled beat:
YouTube - 20SYL - Beat Making Video
YouTube - BOON DOC: From Scratch
My philosophy is sampling in moderation. Samplings already dieing out to an extent so people gotta start becoming better musicians and making original beats that sound as great as all of the legendary sampled beats.

Dont get me wrong, custom beats sound great, but I just dont like mixing sampling with modern day instruments.
Im a better musician then i am producer. Ive been playing guitar and bass for 6 years, and doing studio work on drums. Still, i hate mixing the two. When i do it, it sounds corny.

well, thats what i mean people dont chop up...and u say instruments sounds corny?? well, try to use that type of instrument which will actually sound like a sample and it will go with it...e.g. this sampled beat i did...its an indian sample only the voice and vocal were sampled..drums were made differently (no sample), flute was no sample, piano was no sample, strings were no sample...like u gotta figure out which instruments to put in

hah i mean, im not really tryin to clown. But that beat sounds to clean and kinda corny in my opinion. i like my beats way more raw and gritty. that sounded like a club joint.
Again, dont take it the wrong way. It had good production value. just not my steez...
