just found this.

im not sure what i think about it. I mean, its good i guess that the artists are getting some credit, but the thing that disturbs me is the fact that they are advertised as "FREEBIE BEAT MP3S FROM CRATE KINGS FORUMS"

I know when i post a beat up for critique its not for someone to download and use freely.

And ironically, im the only one getting a link to a myspace. Other artists are only slightly mentioned.

Forum lurkers are everywhere. Im sure there are people paid to search the internet for instrumentals. I think its time that an app is installed to the bulletin board service to where we can hide links for users only.

Obviously there will still be lurkers, but the ammount will surely go down.

So basicly this means...

e.g. in a beat battle only members of the "Crate kings" forum will be able to download the the music from each competitor. Rite?

As Oscar Wilde put it, the only thing worse than being talked about is NOT being talked about. Personally I would have thought if you post up anything to the web for public consumption, even if it meerly for your peer group to critique, you have no reason to be mad if others dig your shit and want to spread the word. OK, this is primarily a forum for beatmakers and aspiring producers, but if joe public is curious about what we do, who are we to shut them out. It's not like the dudes saying, yo, there's free hot music for y'all if you need beats to spit over & don't want to pay to play! I personally see it as good promotion for the cats on here, and if you don't want no-one jacking your shit, either watermark it or don't post it up!

disquiet indeed. Something unsettling about it. "(three and a half minutes, which by Crate Kings standards is equivalent to a concept album)" oooh, oucheroo. I will say, however, that the reviews are really nicely worded and thought-out.

But yeah, to paraphrase P.T. Barnum: "Any publicity is good publicity." Someone else said the same thing about MF Doom recently. I don't know if I buy it in regards to Doom, but here Dylemma, Grime, Milkman, p.illa, RJay, & Fatdan got some well-deserved shine.

I'mma start a poll about this, see where it goes.

im in there too, he did a article on me, and i didnt mind it, fact at first i thought it was one of yall.

seems like pretty good exposure to me.in fact, i love it and it inspired me to make a track just for him.

again, it just doesnt seem like he pays much attention to the artist. Again advertising it as free beat mp3's.

he just mentions your name and doesnt contact any of us for permission.
I would feel positive about this site if he were a member of the forums, and showed interest in us and the cratekings site.
