I think it's hard to justify the art of digging to new kids in the game cos the internet has democratised or fucked everything up, depending on how you see it. It used to be that if you wanted to make beats, you had to pay dues first, and that meant digging! It happened over a period of time as your collection gradually grew, but after a while, you would have enough in the crate to draw from and you would also have developed a good knowledge about the music you were using. I suppose dudes used to turn their noses up at you if you used compilations, but for a lot of guys, they were a great way to familierise themselves with the genres to be were using, (usually jazz, funk and soul). I suppose e-digging is much the same, but the trouble is a lot of new cats have no time for the old craft of digging and don't see the point. Their loss I say!

I love to go digging. Hours and hours of listening to records all for those precious few seconds of beat making gold. But, I have to admit that times do change. I'm personally gonna stick to my ways and do me but I can't deny that I've heard pure heat from mp3 produced beats. I'm not gonna chase after people and say what they're doing is wrong and try to tell them what to do. To be perfectly honest, if the song is dope and a true representation of our hip hop culture does it really matter how it was made? Or does it matter more how it touches peoples minds and souls? Bottom line is whether it's from vinyl or mp3 I'm gonna hold respect for good music.

Peace.

On the real.... I do them both. I absolutely LOVE to finger through all those dusty paper casing saying "garbage, garbage, got it, got it, garbage, OOH!" lol.
And just listening to those old records will give you a sense of how music is supposed to be played. How instruments are meant to be intertwined. Its just something that those old records instill in you. And I dont know about you all... but those few records that ive dug up... that I swore were going to have the heat on them but are actually better space fillers than anything... they inspire me lol.

But I sample from anything, CD's, TV when I had it set up to do so. I recently tried Cassettes, Im sure its possible, but that is an art im not sure I even wish to attempt lol. So for me... MP3's are not out of the question. I've found some really dope stuff that im not even sure if it made it to press lol. Back then, music was expression of the soul, not just a hobby or fast dough. So everybody did it, all of our people were going through hard times then, but the music made it ok. And thus everybody had a group and a record, most of which you will never be able to find lol. This is why I accept MP3 diggage lol.

but yea i recently got a new computer and i got my super secret blog digging spots got about 50 full 320 kbs records so far, and when i throw it in itunes tey got that view where you can flip through covers hahaah so it feels like i actually got em haha i dont know its too early for me

but wordd i mean im sure diggin is awesome if you got a sick spot. but i got a couple sick spots on the net. the rarest shit i found on the net was this lou ragland album- the conveyor. shit is crazy.
