Default Dig Finds March '08

I have been really feeling that psychedelic feel of the 60's and early 70's. So much good music from that era. I buy anything that even looks like it could fall into this category. Whats crazy about diggin' is when you bring home the vinyl, slap it on and accidentally stumble across samples of your favorite artists! Ive included some samples, but really didnt have the patience to record the whole songs and upload them to Zshare. If you are interested in hearing more...just let me know.

Fever Tree: Fever Tree (1969; Universal City Records)
I found this one at goodwill for $1.99. The cover did it for me and everything seemed to fit in with the psychedelic feel I have been into. A Beatles cover song of Day Tripper\We Can Work It Out is on this album a few other covers and a nice selection of originals.
Heres a sample of a Fever Tree original called: Ninety-Nine and One Half (Beginning sound familiar?):
zSHARE - fever_tree.wav

Iron Butterfly: Ball (1969; ATCO records)
Another goodwill find. I mentioned in a previous dig post (prior to site crash) that I had dug up Iron Butterfly:In A Gadda Da Vida. This album held the title song and was probably their most popular song in the 60's. The album was great so...It was a no brainer to pick up Ball. This album is STACKED with familiar samples from the likes of Edan, Black Sheep, Blu&Exile...
I also heard Madlib mention this group in one of his interviews where he was asked what kind of records he listens to.
Edan fan? Maybe you'll recognize the beginning of this track called Belda Beast:zSHARE - ironbutterfly.wav

PUFF: PUFF (1969; MGM records)
Again...The cover of this album has Psychedelic all over it. The band is wearing crazy hats and there is this big Swan just hanging out for some weird reason. There is one song called Rainy Day where the lyrics go "I think Ill go to the zoo, I think Ill see the monkey and give him a banana". Yea. Thats what Im talking about!! Really couldnt find ANYTHING about this band on line. Thats a good thing!
Heres a sample of the song entitled Walk Upon The Water (Just about every song on this album has a great piece to be sampled embedded somewhere in it, this song has some pretty obvious ones {ie:intro/outro}): zSHARE - puff.wav

Ultimate Spinach: Behold & See (1968; MGM records)
Yea. The name of the band says it all. Straight up experimental music that hits all kinds of different genres. Some really GREAT stuff on this album. Some really great, lengthy, trippy tracks that incorporate a lot of jazz aspects. Especially on the track entitled Jazz Thing:
zSHARE - ultimatespinach.wav
