To me they both have their purpose. I prefer vinyl because it's more hands on approach to sampling and the adventure just digging. Picking up a record dollar bin record that's over 30 years old and plays perfect with some nice grooves is great.(especially when people think you're crazy for buying records in the 1st place the look on their faces is hella funny) Vinyl also helped train my ears for sampling tremendously. Sampling from my PC I use to read the waves and just extract parts. So I was using a more visual approach then trusting me ears.

On the flipside of the learning to read the waves helps when chopping up drums breaks quickly via MPC or PC. Net digging for records is aplus for me because I can't find all the records that I want in my area. As far as mp3's I feel they are very useful when I didn't have a turntable I used wavs and mp3's as a soucre for sampling. This help me work on my sampling techniques.MP3's are also great for reviewing music of artists or groups that you never have been exposed to aswell. A record that I may have passed on for months may have a some great sounds on it that I would have never knew about if I don't review that mp3 song that someone may have uploaded.

I haven't read the Premier but from what was quoted. I think it's more that Premier doesn't want digging just fall off and be forgotten because of todays technology... just my two cents..

i think the bottom line is though, we are all here for a reason and that is the "crates". i think even the most hardcore internet digger would break if he saw a melvin bliss 7" sitting in a thrift shop.
I feel you. I lost 200 records in a fire at my storage spot and then a few months later about 800 from a robbery. Compound that with the fact that I don't really have time and I'm forced to get it where I can. Besides, if Just Blaze can get rich off Ken Sports Original Soul CD, what's the point?

internet digging is for toys. there is no challenge to it. its for lazy people.

u can go on soul seek n find an bangin sample in 10 minutes.

diggin in the crates can take u weeks before u find that gem.

i have done both, n honestly, i get no satisfaction out of sampling an mp3. its just not fun to me. n thats what hip hop is all abou,t having fun.
its not about whats hottt. its about the love, enjoyment, self satisfaction, and self gratification.

it is a challenge to find unflipped gems on wax. soulseek is for lazy toys.

not to mention the fact that vinyl sounds better.

With the shortage of vinyl here in NYC, the internet is the only way you can catch some off the meter records sometime. I always hated that, but I know too many REEAL cats killin it on the web and then claiming to find it local.

Vinyl Digging is a matter of dedication, money and time. It's a love thing.
I dunno what Internet Digging is, but when it is just collecting hard to obtain rarities you would never get on vinyl, what's wrong with that.
If you're digging for producing loop based music, you're definiteley Sound Digging. Of course it's quite satisfying to have a nice set of samples from a track you dug out that has never been used before and that is so damn rare that there are not likely to be any copyright issues. But in the end it to me it doesn't really matter how you got hold of that loop or sound you're sampling, it's more what you make of it, how you cut it, how you eq it and what sounds you put around it.

Actually I do both. Since we ain't got no serious record shop near my town I mostly dig on fleamarkets and shit like that ... as far as e-digging I try to dl crazy shit like foreign music I could almost never get my hands on in wax. But I think diggin in the crates is way more fun. It's this feeling you get when you come home with some of the craziest records, listen to them and find those dope samples that get you inspired in no time.

It's simple really: If you find a sound you are looking for, and you can only get by it on the internet, guess what: you can get it and use it... digging is all about finding what you're missing, and it doesn't matter how you do it, as long as you find what you need...
