Default You A Bad Bwoy

Ok, fair's fair, I've been leaving hopefully constructive criticism on here for a while now, so now it's time for you guys to rip into me.

Here's a track coming off a mixtape/lp project I'm working on right now with my boy Danny Danja. zSHARE - bad boy.mp3

It's not totally finished, but near enough. The vocals were just recorded in my lab on a standard mic so they're a bit rough, but I'll allow it! BTW, advanced warning to North Americans, this is pure English accent territory (with a bit of yardie thrown in for good measure) so try and critique objectively cos I know you guys will never get used to hearing hip hop with an international flavour! Lol!

Do your worst, I can take it!!

I got one of those feelings when I listen to alot of amateur stuff of waiting for the beat to fully drop. I mean the beat great I think your drums and bass are just to soft. The bass kicks need to hit harder for sure.

Cheers man, thanks for the comment. That's it, I've decided my next purchase has to be some decent monitors, cos the bassline comes through pretty damn heavy on my system, in fact I had to knock it back a bit cos it was peaking too much. That's the thing, decent monitors tell no lies, unlike the technics hi-fi speakers I'm currently using!

I took a second look at it and maybe the bass thing was just my personal taste as I like to have the kicks really pounding. But this is just nitpicking cuz I have to say that track is really put together but to me it sounds like it's a little "muddier" than a professional track would be. I have no technical training so I have really no clue about that might be, not enough highs or maybe it's just the mic or the recording equipment. But either way it sounds tight homie I'll peep that mixtape when you release it. That sample is tight too. It reminded me of Jamalski if you know him.

Yeah, I remember Jamalski from waay back, but it's actually Jr Demus, off an old Bobby Konders dancehall compilation, with tracks by Shaggy before he came Mr Lova Lova! I was in NY back in 92 for a few months & it seemed everywhere I went, Jamalski would be there spitting in cyphers, he always reminded me of what was going on with UK mc's at the time with all that raggamuffin style chatting that was killing it back then like Demon Boys and London Posse.

Might be the mic, it's just a cheap dynamic mic, but my set up is pretty basic (decks/mac/reason/garageband/mpd – that's it!) but I just got a new USB audio mixer/interface with phantom power, so I can start using condenser mics. Hopefully that will improve things.

Damn dude that's badass. Haha I was 2 in 92. The whole track has a very 90s golden era feel to it for sure. Haha I actually didn't really realize it was an english track first time I heard it I guess I'm too used to accents. Still not as heavy of an accent as akala or any of that grime shit.

I keep listening to the song each time I come and post and I think I like it better each time which is how I'm usually with music I think especially when listening to stuff on the internet I think mellow tracks don't grab me as much but after a few listens this shit is super smooth. I'll be sure to get the mixtape.
