for me every peace of gear (software or hardware) has its own task. u just gotta find the tools u're comfortable with. for example, i do my main drum sequences with the mpc. i also use it for sequencing my hardware samplers and sound modules. then for my samples i use my s3000. i chop, loop and shape my vinyl samples with it. this is how i make the basic sketch of the track. i'm more creative with hardware than software. plus u can't forget the hands on factor. then i track everything out to my computer. this is where software comes into play. when i have all of my tracks (from hardware samplers and sound modules) layin in cubase, i then sequence with cubase. i might add some effects or some additional soft synths, arrange the track and mix it. i always start with hardware and always end up with software. thats the best way for me.
