I saw this lecture from this one famous biologist explaining how the human brain works and how are brains are adapted to understand our environment from our shape and size. For example we see solids as solid objects that are all solid space but in reality 90% of any solid is empty space where if we were smaller we'd be able to see that they're a bunch of atoms held together in a tight configuration.
The point being that humans need to explain how things work and how things are in ways that can be interpreted by the human brain. So to some giant space being or some other creature it might be obvious that the earth is revolving around the sun to a human the natural reaction is the sun is moving around the earth because how it looks to us and in the same way we are used to living in a social environment and we are used to everything in our lives being the result of the conscious action of another living creature.
When things happen to us that happen that aren't caused by another living creature like lightning striking a person dead people in ancient times chose to say that an invisible being in the sky (such as zeus, god, etc.) was responsible.
As humans we have to explain events from the perspective of a human, "god killed john with lightning because he was mad at him" instead of "a bunch of molecules floating in the air got negatively/positively charged and then jumped to negatively/positively charged ions in the ground," because the way our brains are built the first explanation is easier to understand even though it's untrue.
And that is why until further proof is prevented I don't believe in god, fate, spirit energy, chi, whatever magical what have you. But I wasn't brought up religious so I'm not one of those guys going around talking about how religion sucks and I don't care what anyone believes in.
Hey if the rapture happens right as I finish typing this and Jesus descends through the clouds I'd become a believer on the spot obviously and hopefully god isn't the type of petty guy who's gonna say "fuck you, you didn't believe in me. now go suffer eternal hellfire"

Yea man, people are
afraid of what they do not understand.
My family is catholic, although I don't strictly practice. I have studied science and evolution for almost four years, so it is tough for me sometimes (the old "science vs religion"). In my opinion, a lot of religion needs to be updated. Not long ago people thought the world was
flat, yet look how our natural understanding of the world has developed. Still many religions don't acknowledge scientific fact... We need to move forward, religion is
definitely not a bad thing, I think remaining open minded is the key to progress in all aspects, or we would still believe the earth is flat.
