  1. He made a point about New York being dead. Well New York`s focus has been on “Bringing New York back”. How about making good music? that`s the problem. The south`s reign is not the problem. Everyone has thier time in the sun. I don`t know who`s next, but it`s not done. The new generation is on something totally different. It happens with every generation. Give them something they can vibe with and things will change. Hip hop has to get off it`s high horse and start humbling themselves.

    • What do you mean by hip hop high horse?
And since your in a co signing mood, answer this…
If anything good comes out of NY, do you REALLY like it or do you wait for it to hit the radio or for everybody else to like it 1st?
If your into the top 40 rap then your automatically NOT going to like ANYTHING from NYC even if it is quality…cause you new guys are on this whole anti NY thing…
the blame is shared by the fans artist and the industry equally!
more so you fans cause your full of shit…
“make good music” lol, wheres everybody elses “good music” if NY is so bad?
name 5 CLASSIC tracks/albums(to yourself) from the last 10yrs that you’d be able to tolerate 10-15yrs from now?
yeah fuckin right… good try though…
the music that is good doesnt get love cause its not littered with materialism and a gimmick, thats u fans fault, blame yourself…
lables support WHATEVER IS HOT, they HAVE TO!
they dont know what to do with rap, they never did…
“the south” has had the game in a head lock for 10+yrs now and they aint doing nothing with it but killing it off so nobody will be able to eat off this shit after theyre “1 hit and quit” run is over,No?
NOBODY respects hip hop like they used to NOWHERE…
look at the sales, look at the record stores, all these southern 1 hit wonders all get paid no more than 5-15gs a show already…sayin nothing…
thats the same numbers a talib kweli or mos def been pulling in since the rawkus era!! unless your jigga, 50 or weezy you aint seeing big dough…
      But theyre cool with that!
theyre cool being mediocre and anti hip hop with no skill no respect for nothing or nobody, all they care about is the south candy paint money and bitches, they could give 2 fucks about how u feel or the art…
and you muppets stand around with your thumb up your ass co signing the dudes hustling the shit out of us all like you should feel the same way as them…idiots…
      Thats u fans fault…
everybody is so scared to be called a hater that people just go with the flow no matter how retarded the shit is…
      Thats u fans fault…
The vibe is gone from NY cause corporate america made OUR everyday life a buisness that eveybody thinks belongs to them now…
The vibe is gone from Hip hop cause its run by a bunch of college kids party girls and pussys on the internet with a bunch of opinions and too much time on their hands…
All yall scared to death of aggressive music can eat a dick with that south new york BS…your a coward scared for your life to actually stand up for anything , thats why you guys act the way you do, with your 2 line comments and your brief BS opinions, you dont look at hip hop as something respectable or something worth the fight…
its another cheap hustle to get rich quick…

yeah I wrote a book, so fkn what…

      • For one,I am soo far remover form RADIO it`s not even funny. The public does share the blame for music SALES being on the decline, not so much creativity since the majority doesn`t make music. The south is just another type of hip hop,but it still is hip hop. It sounds like you are getting old. and remember I said the new generation is on something different.YOU CAN`T STOP IT. Remember,we were the new generation that the ones before us were talking about. The hip hop you and me listen to is Adult Contemporary hip hop(admit it). Talib,Mos,Tribe etc. can be put in that catagory, and I`m fine with it. I`m just a realist about it all. The 1 hit and quit it shit has been in all genres of music and will still be here long after we are gone. It`s up to the fans to recognize the real. New York has been on a high horse ,but so has the rest of Hip Hop. We ALL need to be humbled a little…oh ,wait…We have been with the slumping sales and downloading because the artists have been puting out lackluster albums. I have ten of my own albums that I think would stand the test of time to me,but that`s just for me. We can go on and on all day about this. Ego`s have gotten in the way and now hip hop is feeling it. Don`t talk about the south, because if you look around, the south is just as diverse as anywhere else. It`s not just about rides and women and hustlin`. There are many different levels to the south just like the east ,west and all points in between. I identify with your rant. i feel that way sometimes myslef, but you have to be real about it,or you sonud like the elders that shunned hip hop themselves.

      • Artist relationships going bad killed hip hop. Look at the trail up to now, all the good labels, groups, even these dudes broke up.

  2. EPMD they always bring the funk, i guess with regards to Rap they pretty much summed it in 1992 with The Crossover. I was so lucky to grow up listening to these guys & don’t forget DJ Scratch…….. SO WHAT YOU SAYIN’ !!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I saw EPMD a few years back at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC. They were, in all honesty, the best hip hop act I have ever seen. I’ve seen Red and Meth back in 98, I’ve seen KRS, etc….these guys are an incredible duo, and it was like seeing the last of real hip hop – amazing. If you ever have a chance to see em, drive 100 miles if you have to.

    • I agree. I saw them at a Hip Hop Festival in DC and they killed it. Since im 16, i pretty much only got into them. When i saw them perform, i started checking them out.

  4. When I was coming up rap was the music. Hip hop was the culture. It’s called hip hop music now. They telling you it’s different. The older cats have to teach younger cats not diss them. This southern rap would have been gone if certain NYC rappers like maino and fat joe just to name a few weren’t imitating these guys. NYC dj’s like kay slay 90% of his radio show is the south. One time this played some niggas from alabama demo tape when he don’t play niggas from NYC with albums out. All the regions are doing southern music. We letting the corporations make fools out of us. Artist are talking like record execs. Quoting their first sales and going to the studio like “we need a radio record.”Record companies(banks) are stealing our culture and we helping them do it

  5. To geek out a little bit, Erick’s talking about how his beats are bassline driven. Does anybody know what keyboard he was using on “Muddy Waters” and Keith Murray’s first album to get those deep, hard-hitting basslines?

  6. QUNYC took the words right out of my mouth I feel like that all the time. It’s not that good hip-hop is dead; it’s still out there. You just have to search a lot harder to find it nowadays. It is so easy to make music now, that anybody with a computer and a mic can call them selves a rapper. Then the Internet makes it easy to put your music out and gather a following just based of your image or how you look. All of this leads to hip-hop being watered down that’s why you have to search so hard to find something that is good. There are plenty of good artists out there and plenty of good music it’s just that it is so far under the bullshit that you have to put your rubber shit shoveling boots on and dig deeper to find it. To me it makes me appreciate the music more when I do come across something good because I had to search so hard to find it and also I know that not too many people know about it. Good hip-hop is still alive it’s just further underground then ever.

    • That is also one of my points there. There is still good hip hop out here and I appreciate it whole-hartedly. Discovery can be a good thing when it comes to hip hop.

  7. wow. one of you said “no keyboards” and another said you never heard a “bass line record” from “E Sermon”. have you ever heard his fucking beats before? what’s wrong with y’all fools, man? i thought this might be a place i could get at least a guess for what he was using. i said a banana nutriment mutherf**ker!!!
    crumbs…

  8. lol lol i live in the same cmplex as him…..i thought i going crazy i had to stop and say hey ur epmd lol lol
