  1. The homies and I used to buy singles just to rhyme on the instrumentals. The first joint I remember was (The Lost Boyz, Renee). The last instrumentals we got busy on was Dr.Dre’s Chronic 2000. We wanted something of our own so ever since then I’ve been a beat maker.

  2. The moment that really got me in love with making beats was when I was going through the record collection of my parents and finding the sample of Heart Of The City. From this moment on I’d like to do my own beats.

  3. It all started when i started listening to my brother in law’s collection. I never really knew much about hip hop back then and i was listening to Lil Scrappy,D4L and all the rest of em then that day came along. He had just books of music, the entire wu tang, mobb deep, psycho realm albums. Big pun, pac, biggie.cypress hill, soul assassins 1 and 2, pibull, and too much too add but he listens to anything. The beats on most of those albums caught me the samples used. Psycho Realm’s In This Lifetime, the sample used was just so soulful, the drums bassline were spot on and didnt sound out of place and the lyrics were crazy. Wu Tand Clans C.R.E.A.M just knocked me out. I was listening to lyrics that i didnt hear on music that was on the radio. The beat was just to me was something one could lay back and chill to. DJ Muggs vs. GZA feat. RZA & Raekwon – Advance Pawns Remix…..Dj Muggs just has a style that cant be matched and its different. The way he put it together from beginning to end was flawless. From then on i started to produce and i started to listening to older albums and underground albums like Lightheaded, Blu, Aloe blacc, Masta ace,Jedi mind tricks, the jazz liberators, doom tree, athletic mind league, ayatollah, exile, esoteric, stoupe, diamond d, pete rock, ohmega watts, marco polo, flying lotus, jay dee ( especially the intro beat for Donuts CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Blue sky black death, man theres too many to list and this post i already too long.

  4. For me it as RockBox by Run-DMC that song made me want to DJ ,I was alreadya kid rappin’ on the Playground ith my friends at the time. JMJ made me want to make music. I played around learning the TurnTables because of that song.

The first song I made for myself used two BoomBoxes and a pausebutton with a loop of My Philosophy by BDP and I we a song c Creative thinking. I was 14 and I got serious at 16 realy writting and counting bars.

To sum it up it was RockBox by RUN_DMC that made me want to make music!!!

  5. I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO CREATE MUSIC FROM THE AGE OF 5. HAVING ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF MUSIC PLAYED IN MY HOUSE GROWING UP, MUSIC ALWAYS TOOK ME TO A PLACE WHERE I WAS HAPPY, NO WORRIES IN THE WORLD AND I WANTED TO BRING OTHERS INTO THAT WORLD. NOW THAT I AM ABLE TO DO THAT, I WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO VIBE OFF MY CREATIONS AND MAYBE HELP THEM CREATE MUSIC FOR OTHERS TO BUILD ON TO WHAT I CREATED.

  6. This is gonna hurt to admit, and I’m only saying it because I want that DVD. When I heard “Ice Ice Baby” by you-know-who, I thought to myself, “What the hell? That’s the exact same sound from that Queen song!” Then I thought, “…ooooooh.” And then 3 seconds later I thought “I wanna do that.”

    happy mother’s day

  7. maker’s “shooting the breeze” – i remember driving to Cincinnati and hearing “train till nowhere” at like the 3:08 mark in the track and hearing the illest use of live sampled guitars that i had ever heard.
im a guitar player so i was interested in trying it out myself.
when i have the time, i do what i can producer-wise, plus it helps to know what the guy behind the mpc or computer is doing when youre recording for someone ya know?

    great website

  8. Yo! I remember listening to that killer army cd in my man’s whip way back when. We were all chillin on the back porch and my man started a freestyle cypha… before you knew it i started to join in and everyone was feeling it. Yo i didn’t know what i was doing but the feeling was great. After that i started to make tracks with catz around the way and in 04 after i got out of the army i decided to start making my own beats. To be able to create a classic and have others putting history on your beats is amazing. I love music!!

  9. thats whats up pause button..
thats how i started making beats with two radio’s
play the beat in one and record on the other then hit pause
    rewind and do it again…
that shit took all day to do…
    now thats real old school………

  10. For me it all started the summer before my freshman year in high school. I had just gotten a downloaded version of Fl Studio (which I have upgraded to the real one since then) and had just started making beats on it. My inspiration came one day when I was on youtube and I saw a video of Kanye West chopping up a sample on the MPC. And just watching him compose that beat and see how much fun he was having while doing it inspired me to make beats also. I knew from that moment on that producing is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I made one of my best beats that day and I’ve never stopped ever since.

  11. Yes indeed it is Old School and in the vain of ANY MEANS AVAILABLE to make music.

I made 5 diffrent sounding songs from 1 bank I made with sounds Preeme sent me for copin that DVD.

The Golden Age was my favoite time in Hip Hop!!!

I hope the Future of Hip Hop is Brighter.

  12. Getting a good beat maker is a must for anyone…and I mean anyone serious about getting into the music industry.

    Great post man…keep them coming!

  13. i started producing music because i got tired of hearin the same thing.
and i knew i could do things differently and make it hot and different.
i also started producing because of run dmc. they were pioneers in the game.
also i started producing so the whole world could hear me and feel my moods i express through my instrumentals
