Diddy attacks DJ’s, formulaic artists, and Hip-Hop in general for not taking risks, sounding the same, and refusing to break records.
With such comments and criticism as, "Hip-Hop has lost its risk taking quality, everybody goes to the comfort zone," and "DJ’s ain’t DJ’s no more," there’s obviously a bit of truth to his statements, but does Diddy also open himself up to hypocrisy?

Why does Diddy continue to make it hard for me to be his only remaining Black fan? There are mad DJs and and artists taking risks and going against the grain in the game right now. The bamma is lunchin and he needs to turn off the radio and MTV and do his homework. And to answer your last question, he’s being extremely hypocritical. The sound he helped to create and still supports he’s now taking a stab at it. Fuck outta here man. He must need a new artist to sell a pipe dream and then attempt to crush their spirit. His heart is with Ciroc, I Am King and Sean John, not in the music anymore.

i gotta agree with sonya on this. while puff’s thoughts on the lack of variety on the radio and the obvious fact the majority of major label artists have been following formulas are both true, there are tons of artists and djs in the world breaking ground and doing creative work. him and the business model that he created/promoted just blinded him to the fact that that variety makes the world go round, and for the most part, he has been making formulaic garbage. just because he isnt aware of the numerous dope artists and djs in the world… that doesnt put him in a position to take credit for suddenly deciding to take a “risk” and creating a “new sound.” when considering the change in directions we’ve seen from weezy and kanye recently, and the the success those two have experienced as a result, diddy talking about changing his sound and doing something new doesnt seem like its based 100% on a creative desire, does it? dude is trying to make money and gain some props for being an innovator – i get it. that’s respectable, but do realize he’s made more cookie cutters than nabisco.

Saying Hip Hop isnt fresh coming from a simple sample whore like him? First off, the few beats that he has made that ARE classic are due to the artist on it or the invisible producer sequencing it. Sean Combs may have gotten producer credit “along side” of Chucky Thompson in Big Poppa. Or “guided” Easy Mo Bee through Give Me the Loot (and the many others he produced) but lets be real – we’ve heard the story’s about this guy taking producers beats, not paying royalties, and to this he says he is a “orchestrator”. He’s a business man. But that’s an observation – not credit.

I respect him for his honesty. I wish more DJ’s could see this and understand that if you dont take risks as a DJ then your just as bad as the radio programmers. Im the guy who refuses to be programmed. If I like it I like it. If I want you to like it then you will. If I want you to hate it you will. Thats powerful and until DJ’s realize their full potential than i cant respect your hustle and artists wont either. My club Vango’s on Thursday nite the owner just recently asked me to play more TOP 40 music, but he has commercials on an URBAN hip Hop Station. I will not get caught up in that kind of non-sense. Once i plug up and get ready to play, I can not and will not be programmed.
