Dâm Funk Explains The Funk, Digging, Good Music Karma

March 25, 2009

Respect to On Point for dropping an interview with Stones Throw artist Dâm Funk as he elaborates on his philosophy behind exposing his DJ set playlists, the practice of covering record labels, sharing knowledge of music, and keeping Funk alive.

Notable Quote:
"The Hip-Hop generation… ya know, they sampled the Funk, but they don’t really pay homage to the Funk."

I’m feeling this, but I don’t agree with the whole West Coast were the only ones pumping the funk, what about EPMD’s first album? That was 88, four years before The Chronic!

I wish I’d got my shit together and caught him live when he was in the UK. Great interview. DF’s got a lot to say.

Word i do have to agree with him. Being i’m from the midwest(kansas city)Here we were in to cameo, faze-o, barkays, and zapp, and all of the late funk.

*side note*

I met Roger Troutman when he came to Kansas city. He was here to do a track with Tech Nine. I was working at 7th heaven, which is a record store. If you have ever seen any concert or video of Zapp.

You know the stage gear that DF was talking about in the interview, they ware that shit all the time.

Roger came in to the record store just to buy his album and he had on a suit like he just got off stage, and then ran to the record store to buy his album. LOL LOL

It was crazy, i’m like did he just have a concert in the middle of the afternoon.LOL LOL but he was a cool kat. This was like 2 weeks before he was killed. RIP
