50 Cent Declares War On Def Jam After Lying About Kanye West Bet

September 14, 2007

According to preliminary numbers it looks like 50 has already lost his sales challenge to Kanye West.  We all knew he wouldn’t honor the bet and retire rapping, but after blaming lagging sales on his own label, he’s declaring war on Def Jam and by threatening to release independent albums for each one of Def Jam’s releases!

"To be honest, the process of selling this record hasn’t been fun. I’m happy with the performance, but I’m not happy with the set up. It was the label. They’re dropping the ball all over the place. I’ll release my next album and then I’m a free agent."

He also added,

"If I ended up selling less than Kanye, I would release a new album every time Def Jam had a priority. I would release a record versus every one of their top priorities each time."

Does he actually think he can outsell or even put a dent into Def Jam’s overall sales?!  I’ve become accustomed to 50’s drama over the years, but here’s the part that confuses me… if he’s so unhappy and pissed off with his recording label, why not go to war with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope instead?   Just a thought, but wouldn’t it make more sense to fight the label held responsible for the lack of sales?
